Last night I started Maurizio de Giovanni's I Will Have Vengeance, only to discover that the main character sees dead people and solves cases partially based on what he's seen. This is just not my thing in crime fiction, but I'm trying to read as many titles on the list of books eligible for the International Dagger Award. I hate to call it quits, but at the same time, I have other books I want to get through.
Someone help me out here -- should I finish it because it's on the list or should I drop it? And will someone give it a home (absolutely free) if I choose not to read it?
It's OK, this element is not a theme of the book, it is mainly at the start. The crime plot is "played straight".
ReplyDeleteOkay then, I'll continue. Thanks, Maxine!
DeleteDon't stop reading and you 'll find you in Italy, in 30's Naples. Probably , as it happened to me , each character will become as an old friend of you and you 'll want to follow their happenings through the further novels. Please let us know, then , if you like it .
ReplyDeleteThank you, Laura! I'll definitely post when I'm finished.
DeleteI'd drop it right away. Any supernatural hint for me and I'm immediately off to something else.
ReplyDeleteI like paranormal when I want to read it but definitely not in crime -- I prefer my crime reads to have earthly solutions and earthly detectives. On the other hand, I do have a wide range of supernatural detective novels but those are for when I want to read weird -- like on the other blog this month!
